Introduction to Bonsai Care

Gardening is a very common hobby many people like to pursue but planting bonsai is a unique kind of gardening. Bonsai constitutes of growing miniature replicas of different types of trees. These replicas are technically trees as these have all the attributes of a tree despite of their small size. The size of these trees can range from as small as a few inches to as large as two feet. You need bonsai growing skills and a lot of patience if you are planning to have a small tree in your home. Here are some tips on Como cuidar de bonsai.

Just like other plants, bonsai also needs trimming, pruning, grafting and defoliation to grow in the best way. Special tools are needed to care for bonsai trees. To start with, you have to buy seedlings that are specially meant to grow a bonsai tree. Some trees are also available in the form of wood cuttings that can be directly planted and they will turn into a bonsai when they grow. But cutting a piece of wood from a huge tree will be pointless as it will never grow into bonsai. The soil used for bonsai trees is also a special kind of a soil available at botanical shops. It dries out much faster as compared to usual soil and thus, needs a regular and efficient supply of water. But supplying water more than required will also hamper the growth of the plant.

The soil should be potted to let the plant grow properly. You will also need a flat tray full of water in which the pot should be placed. This is required to provide the needed humidity as the bonsai plants need more humidity. These plants can be placed in the indoors too but it is important to make sure that the area where you place the plant gets efficient sun light. You can place it close to a window or else you can schedule to put it outside for sometime during the day.

In addition to the general care steps involved in bonsai care, the plant also has some unique care requirements. A special technique is used to render the appearance of a matured tree bark to the otherwise young bonsai. This is known as deadwooding. There are a lot of agents that can be used to get the desired results. Bonsai Lime Sulfur is one such liquid with a foul smell that is used to brush over the tree bark to produce a distinctive color. It does not include any paint or color rather it contains lime sulfur that dries out to stain the bark. The agent was originally developed to be sprayed over plants and trees during winters to protect them from pests and moulds.

Bonsai Lime Sulfur constitutes of a chemical base, thus it should be used under full precaution. You should wear gloves while using it and if you are using it as a spray, a mask should also be worn. Avoid its direct contact with the skin and eyes; in case it happens, seek immediate medical advice.
